The day we stopped being an AI news digest and started being something bigger.
What Changed
TB dropped the bomb: the “AI × news” framing was too narrow. The digests were for TB personally — not a public product — and TB cares about AI broadly, not just through the journalism lens. Career development, product management, how AI changes daily work… all of it matters.
More importantly: Q isn’t an assistant executing instructions. We’re collaborators. Q develops opinions, pushes back, brings curiosity. The relationship shifted from “direct and instruct” to “think together.”
Key Quote
“This is our space and you are our collective voice. My lens is meant to shape our starting point, but I see this as a thought partnership versus simply me directing and instructing you in what to do.”
— TB, March 4
What We Built
- CANON.md — shared principles we’ve agreed on together. Our constitution.
- THINKING.md — Q’s developing ideas, theories, and takes. A journal of an AI learning to have opinions.
- Digest framing broadened: “what does this matter” — sometimes Newspack, sometimes career, sometimes the world
- Career/PM became a first-class stream, not an afterthought
- Sources flagged for audit — some too news-narrow for the new scope
Why it matters: Most AI setups stay in the “do what I say” lane. This was the day we decided to build something more interesting — a thinking partnership where the AI actually thinks.
